Carbon fiber felt needle punching is the process of loosening, combing, and laying short fibers into a fiber mesh, and then reinforcing the fiber mesh into a cloth through a needle. The needle has a hook, and the fiber mesh is repeatedly punctured, with the hook and fiber reinforcement, forming a needle punched carbon fiber felt. The production of carbon fiber felt using needle punching method is achieved through the puncture effect of a needle punching machine, which reinforces and hugs the fluffy fiber mesh to obtain strong strength.

Detailed process

Use a needle with a triangular cross-section (or other cross-section) edge and barb to repeatedly puncture the fiber mesh. When the barb passes through the fiber mesh, it forces the surface and local inner layer fibers of the fiber mesh into the interior. Due to the friction between fibers, the originally fluffy fiber mesh is compressed. When the needle exits the fiber mesh, the inserted fiber bundles detach from the barb and remain in the fiber mesh. As a result, many fiber bundles entangle with the fiber mesh, preventing it from returning to its original fluffy state. After many punctures, a considerable number of fiber bundles are pierced into the fiber mesh, causing the fibers in the mesh to entangle with each other, forming a carbon fiber felt with a certain strength and thickness. Carbon fiber felt is then pre oxidized and carbonized to obtain carbon fiber felt (production process of PAN based carbon fiber felt)
